Students will explore color theory, composition and storytelling through the medium of flowers. Like any creative art form, floral design can be as plebeian as an FTD flower arrangement or a profound statement made by an intentional artist. The techniques used borrow heavily from the practices of structual engineering, architecture and sculpture. In this workshop, each student will choose a palette using the color wheel and create a design using flowers as the medium. Through composition made up of branches, berries, fresh fruit, vegetables, found objects, wire and of course, flowers, students will enter into the discussion of whether flowers are merely decoration or can function as high art.
